My favorite moment in yoga...when limits move

When someone practicing yoga with me finds the courage to do a handstand.  In this pic I am practicing yoga on the beach at the Bioluminescent bay at Rum Point in Grand Cayman. Pretty close to bliss.

I love going upside down. Always have. I want to share it with many more people. Call me the upside down proselytizer

I am grateful to report I spotted new handstands several times this week. First,  I added handstands to my kids' yoga class. Many kids are free from the fear of handstands that plagues adults.
Many of the kiddos kicked right up into a handstand against the wall, and a couple easily found a handstand in the middle of the room with very little support.  Kids are unencumbered by the mental junk and fear. Wild.

This weekend my yoga teacher training learned inversions. I had the joy of watching a few beautiful women find their first handstands against a wall and in the middle of the room. Their sense of accomplishment was palpable. I was honored to be part of the mental and physical support to get them there.

Witnessing people move their own limits is part of what brings me to the yoga mat in a room with other people practicing yoga.  What a gift.

Teaching kids yoga (aka: being taught by kids)

I'm pretty sure I learn more from the kids than they learn from me.

My first yoga class for kids and adults we went around the room creating a story together. The theme for the story was 'samadhi' or non-harming. Each person in the circle contributed a word or a phrase to the story.

Each time the story came to one little boy, he added '...and died.'  Another animal in the story died a non-violent death. The adults chuckled at the death in our non-harming story. The third time the story came to this little boy he paused, and we waited expectantly to see which character in the story would meet an untimely death.  Instead he added '...and they turned into frogs!'

I thought...ah, progress towards samadhi!  And it's just his first class!
